Posted By: Lupine Furmen @ 03-24-2016 07:18 AM | WOW, things really blew up in here. But PLEASE, let's respect each others beliefs. I do not want to see any belief bashing in here.

Posted By: AnonyMouse555 @ 03-23-2016 14:40 PM | @Rocco: There are big differences, to be sure, but most of them belong to the category of differing interpretations of verses and the filling in of extra-Biblical blank, which is pretty much how the widely recognized Protestant denominations differ, too. For what it's worth, the most serious Catholics I've known have had views of Mary which were more reverential than the Protestant views, but also fell shy of the stereotype (and didn't include the points you've mentioned). The address of the Pope is, frankly, tied into honorifics which just aren't used in normal English anymore, but date back to fuedalism. It's precisely the same as referring to a judge as "Your honor"- it's a tradition-steeped recognition and respect for the title more than anything else. Confession is a trickier topic, and something I'd rather not elaborate on here, but I do agree that confessing to a priest isn't Biblically necessary, since forgiveness comes from Christ- but confessing a sin to a spiritual advisor hardly makes you less of a Christian. Feel free to take this up in messages if you want.

Posted By: AnonyMouse555 @ 03-23-2016 14:09 PM | @Sam: As a protestant, it annoys me too, although it seems to be a fairly rare view in my experience. It is worth noting that the exact status of Peter is one of those "big doctrinal differences".

Posted By: Sam @ 03-23-2016 14:04 PM | Goes along with men corrupting it, still Christianity as for absolution that's ultimately between you and the great spirit.
Posted By: Rocco @ 03-23-2016 10:26 AM | You have to go to a preist for confession and forgiveness, but the Holy Spirit intercedes straight to God Himself for us, and we are covered through the blood of Christ. We don't require a person to forgive us, that is God Himself.
Posted By: Rocco @ 03-23-2016 10:21 AM | Holy Father is God's name, yet they call the Pope that or his holiness. That is blashpemous, because no man is sinless. Check Romans 3:23
Posted By: Rocco @ 03-23-2016 10:17 AM | I'll name a few. : Take for example the example the "virgin" Mary, who was supposedly a virgin all her life and perfect. Luke 2:24 records her going to the temple to offer sacrifices.
Posted By: Rocco @ 03-23-2016 10:08 AM | catholic doctrine includes many issues that are not included in the bible or the teaching of jesus. i

Posted By: Sam @ 03-23-2016 08:07 AM | Sorry just had to rant. I'm no longer practicing however, just had to stress Christ founded Catholicism men corrupted it. It's still Christianity.
Posted By: Sam @ 03-23-2016 07:59 AM | AnonyMouse555 is correct, the protestant ignorance of this is quite annoying and they generally argue the issue with utter certainty although Christ founded the church St. Peter being the first Pope. St. Peter for those who don't know was one of the apostles of Christ. Martin Luther founded the Lutheran Church due to the corruption of the clergy being men, were exceedingly greedy for power and wealth.

Posted By: AnonyMouse555 @ 03-23-2016 01:54 AM | I'm not looking to start a fight here, but Catholicism is a subset of Christianity, not a different religion. Not to say that there aren't big doctrinal differences between them and most Protestant denominations (because there are), but Catholics are Christians, too.
Posted By: Rocco @ 03-22-2016 23:36 PM | I hate to be the guy who breaks up the party, but Christians and Catholics aren't the same.
Posted By: Siris @ 12-08-2015 17:07 PM | well Catholicism would be a form of christianity
